Foundation HistoryThe Foundation for Animals was established to celebrate and emulate the vision and commitment exhibited by Mikal Kellner of Helena, Montana. Mikal is dedicated to improving conditions for animals, both domestic and wild. With relentless tenacity and great good humor and energy, she has significantly altered her community’s awareness of animal welfare issues. Among numerous achievements, Mikal transformed a sordid dog pound into a clean, humane animal shelter; organized an injured animal transport program; lobbies state government for animal-rights legislation; served as administrator and chief volunteer of both the Humane Society and the animal shelter; testifies in many animal abuse cases; educates the public about the critical needs of animals; and contributes other diverse services on behalf of creatures in desperate straits. Mikal Kellner was the 1989 recipient of the national American Veterinary Medical Association Humane Award. This award recognizes a non-veterinarian who has demonstrated exceptional compassion for the welfare of animals. The Foundation for Animals is proud to use her name as a symbol of the foundation’s ability to mobilize and employ resources on behalf of animals. |
